The Proper Time

The ground is still too wet work, but sometimes you have to do things not at the proper time, and that is exactly what we have done. Today we started to work the ground in hopes that it will dry up soon. The last frost date for our area is April 15. By that time we would like to have the ground ready to start planting beans, corn, tomatoes, peppers, okra, summer squash, and cucumbers... just to name a few. To give you an example, the variety of Sweet Corn we grow will hopefully be planted on April 15, and should be ready for harvest the week of July 4. There is a lot more planning that goes into farming than one may think, and the environmental conditions such as rain can destroy one's plan rather quickly. So we continue to smile, and take it one day at a time.
